Where HP45 Cartridges Are Used Today: From Printers to Industrial Coding
The HP45 black cartridge was designed for desktop printers and wide-format plotters. Its long life comes from a second career: industrial marking.
Desktop printers and plotters
Many legacy DeskJet-class printers and plotters used the HP45 (51645A) black cartridge, and some of this equipment is still in service in offices, schools and workshops.
Thermal inkjet (TIJ) coders
The 12.7 mm (½ inch) print swath made the HP45 popular in handheld and online TIJ coders that print dates, batch numbers, barcodes and logos on cartons, paper bags, wood and other porous materials. Factories using these coders can go through many cartridges every month — which is why empty HP45 cartridges have real value.
Why this matters for recyclers
Steady industrial demand creates a market for well-remanufactured HP45 cartridges. That market is what allows us to pay for genuine HP original empties instead of treating them as waste.
